Medication Management

Many psychiatric conditions are best treated with medication as part of the treatment plan. As a medical doctor, who has specialized in the field of psychiatry, your psychiatrist will determine if medication is indicated for your diagnosis and discuss the options with you. If medication is initiated as part of your treatment, you will be carefully monitored on a regular basis for efficacy and possible side effects.

Psychotherapy (or talk therapy) can be an important part of a comprehensive treatment plan. There are many different approaches to psychotherapy, and many are offered by non-medically trained therapists. Your psychiatrist will help decide if therapy could be helpful in treating your condition. If so, your doctor will discuss the available types of therapy options. This could be with a therapist or, at times, with your psychiatrist. Of course, if you already have a therapist, there would be no interruption of that treatment and your doctor will coordinate care with your therapist.
